October 6— Last week we were invited to Dallas to attend a Financial Fair for the FDIC.  It was great to see so many members, both new and “seasoned”!  Yet from time to time we hear FDIC employees say, “but you are only in Washington DC, I can’t use the Credit Union, can I?”

The truth is while we were in Dallas for one day, every day we are EVERYWHERE you are.  True, our physical office is in Arlington, VA but with the world’s technology advances, gone are the days when you need your Credit Union to be close by.  Technology makes us where you need us to be 24/7.  That’s a good thing!  Our contact center is answered by real employees who work for us, are trained by us and can walk over and grab one of us if there is a problem.  Our online banking is state-of-the-art, with mobile check deposit and branch and ATM locators that get you where you need to go.  And we have more than 5,000 branches and 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide.  Go ahead – put in your zip code and see what comes up near where you live, work or travel.

We spent hours with Dallas employees showing them how to open accounts, apply for loans and get answers to their questions while using our website.  We brought real-time access through technology so that we were able to help members.  It felt really good at the end of the day that we could see you.  But please remember, we don’t need to “see” you to be there for you.

We may be out of your sight, but you are never out of our mind.  Take for example the recent floods in Louisiana.  Our staff called all of our members who lived in the flood area to ensure they were ok.  This is how we are different.  We care about you even though we don’t see you.  We are your financial institution, created for you, by you.  And if you are not happy for any reason, tell us.  Really.
