CEO On The Power of Volunteering

Theresa Mann, President and CEO, Explores the Value of Giving Back

January 3- How important was your first job? My first job was at Luigi’s Pizza in New Jersey when I was 15 years old.  Luigi, the owner, paid me in cash, when he paid me at all. But I was happy because I got all the free pizza I could eat.

Thankfully, my parents raised me with a good solid work ethic. I went to work, did not call in sick and in return received a paycheck.  I hope to pass this work ethic along to my almost 13 year old son as he takes his first job in a few years. But for now, I am introducing a different way to work that I did not experience until I was older.  I hope to teach him to put people over profit, and gain satisfaction from helping those who are less fortunate. My son will be able to say that his first jobs were unpaid.

So far this holiday season, we have worked, alongside other volunteers, on the Salvation Army Food Truck in Washington DC one cold winter evening.  We have also volunteered at the Optimist Club Christmas Tree Farm (in the parking lot of our local grocery store) to help raise money for the local children in our community (see photo).  While not initially thrilled to give up his evenings, he did let me know that it felt good to do something that helps others. It’s a win and I’ll take it.

How The Partnership FCU Gives Back

Our team here at The Partnership FCU understands and embraces the value of service. We are constantly looking for ways to help improve lives and make a difference in our communities.

Our Credit Union is also committed to helping sick children and performs many fundraisers during the year for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Beyond the nearly $5,000 raised, it’s the time spent volunteering that our staff values most (see photo). To provide families in need a brief distraction from their worries, while bringing joy to the children, has been an experience our staff treasures. We look forward to finding more opportunities to serve in 2019.

From our family to yours, we wish you all the best for a happy new year.
